Window Treatment Care & Maintenance

Thank you for choosing us!

We want your custom window treatments to look beautiful and function perfectly for years to come. Below you’ll find care tips for each style we offer.

Cleaning Supplies Made Simple
A few basic tools can make caring for your window treatments quick and easy. We recommend keeping a feather duster or microfiber cloth on hand for everyday dusting, plus a vacuum with a soft brush attachment for deeper cleaning.

For spot cleaning, use a soft cloth or sponge and a gentle fabric cleaner diluted with water. A small spray bottle or bucket makes it easy to apply. For more detailed work, a cool setting on your hairdryer can help remove dust from cellular shades, and a soft-bristle brush works well on delicate fabrics. Having these items nearby keeps the process stress-free and your shades looking their best.

Plantation Shutters

Use a clean, dry feather duster, cloth or vacuum with soft brush attachment to gently remove dust and debris. To ensure thorough cleaning, wipe the louvers or slats in the open and closed positions. For deeper cleaning, use a lightly damp cloth. Do not immerse the product in water or use abrasive chemical solvents. This may cause discoloration and the wood to warp. For best results on Hybrid Shutters use a cotton cloth dampened with water. Polyester cloths tend to create static, which can attract dust. Avoid excess water on wood shutters to prevent warping.

Cellular / Honeycomb Shades

Cellular shades are a favorite for energy efficiency and soft, filtered light—and they’re easy to keep looking great. Just use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to gently remove dust from both the surface and inside the cells. Be gentle to help maintain their shape and structure.

  • Dusting: Use a soft brush, feather duster, or a compressed air/hair dryer at a cool setting  •   Vacuum with a low suction using a hand-held vacuum or a soft brush attachment.
  • Spot cleaning: Dampen a clean cloth or sponge with warm water to dab the spot until it’s gone. Add a mild detergent solution, if needed. Blot gently to avoid creasing the shade (do not rub!)  •   Allow shade to dry in a fully lowered position.

Avoid pressing too hard to protect shape.

Roller / Solar Shades

Occasional dusting is recommended as it  will help maintain the beauty of your shade. Here are the proper detailed methods for cleaning Roller/Solar Shades.

  • Dusting: Use a duster to remove any light dust  •  Use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment or  a handheld vacuum to remove dust and debris.
  • Spot cleaning: Roller Fabrics wipe the shades gently with a soft cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, working from top to bottom.   •  Solar Screens can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. If necessary, a mild detergent can be used and must be rinsed out thoroughly. Always allow  the shade to dry completely in a lowered position before operating.
  • Iron/Steam: Do not iron roller shade fabrics.  •  If wrinkles develop, a garment steamer can be used on the select roller shade fabrics. (check the fabric label)

Shade should not be submersed in water. Allow to dry completely before retracting the shade.

Roman Shades

Roman shades bring a soft, elegant look to your windows, and with a little care, they’ll stay looking beautiful.

  • Dusting: Roman shades can be cleaned by hand held vacuum, spot cleaning or dusting. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment to gently remove dust from the folds.
  • Spot cleaning: For spot cleaning use a soft cloth or sponge moistened with lukewarm water. Add mild detergent if needed. Blot gently to avoid creasing or damaging the fabric. Rubbing can damage the fabric. For small spots or stains, blot carefully with a soft cloth and a mild soap-and-water solution—just be sure not to soak the fabric. Do not steam 100% silk, 100% linen/cotton blend, or 100% cotton fabrics.

Shade should not be submersed in water. Allow to dry completely before retracting the shade.

Sheer Shades

To keep your Sheer Shades looking their best, regular light dusting is all they need. Use a feather duster or a gentle air blower to remove dust—just skip the vacuum, as it can be too harsh for the delicate fabric. If any wrinkles or creases pop up, a fabric steamer will smooth them out in no time. Routine cleaning will help maintain the beauty of your shade.

SmartDrape™ Shades

SmartDrape™ Shades are soft, elegant, and a breeze to care for with a little TLC.

Washing Instructions: To clean them, carefully remove the fabric from the clip vanes, fold gently, and place them in a mesh laundry bag. Wash on cold using the gentle cycle—skip the extra spin! Let them line dry until just slightly damp (fan drying works too). Once they’re ready, reattach the fabric to the rail and leave the vanes open while they finish drying. This helps keep them wrinkle-free and looking their best.

Note: Do not use bleach or cleaning products that contain bleach.

Ironing or steaming: Use a steam iron on “Nylon” mode (around 200-220ºF).  Wrinkles: Wrinkles may occur after washing or long transportation. If your shade is wrinkled, hang it for a few days. This will help minimize the wrinkles, allowing them to usually disappear naturally. You may  choose to steam or iron the fabric panels in accordance with the care instructions above.

Woven Wood Shades

Your woven wood or bamboo shades bring natural texture and warmth to your space—and with a little care, they’ll stay beautiful for years to come.

Since these shades are made from natural materials, they need a softer touch than other window treatments. Here’s how to keep them looking their best:

Note: Woven wood shades are delicate by design. To avoid bending or damaging the fibers, dust them regularly with a soft cloth or feather duster. For textured weaves, use the brush attachment on your vacuum set to low suction.

Stick to mild cleaners—harsh chemicals can fade or weaken the natural materials. When needed, try a diluted vinegar solution or gentle soap mixed with water (but be sure to apply it with a damp cloth, not directly on the shade). Too much water can stain natural fibers and may affect motorized mechanisms if your shades are automated. Always spot-clean lightly and avoid soaking any part of the shade.

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood blinds are durable and easy to care for with just a few simple steps. Use a clean feather duster, soft cloth, or a vacuum with a brush attachment to remove dust. For a deeper clean, gently wipe the slats with a mild soap and water solution—be sure to clean them in both the open and closed positions for best results.

Avoid soaking the blinds or using harsh chemical cleaners, as these can cause discoloration. Ultrasonic cleaning isn’t recommended, and it’s best to keep them away from high heat to prevent any slight warping.

Wood Blinds

To keep your wood blinds looking polished and beautiful, give them a quick dusting each week. Use a clean, dry feather duster, cloth, or vacuum with a brush attachment to gently remove dust. For a thorough clean, be sure to wipe the slats in both the open and closed positions.

For spot cleaning, use a lightly damp cloth—just avoid soaking the wood. Never immerse wood blinds in water or use harsh chemicals, as this can cause warping or discoloration. Ultrasonic cleaning isn’t recommended. A touch of wood polish is fine, just use it sparingly and test it first if you’re unsure.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are easy to maintain with regular light cleaning. Dust the slats using a soft cloth or Swiffer-style duster. For small spots or smudges, gently wipe with a mild detergent and water solution. If you have fabric slats, always check the care label for specific cleaning instructions to keep them looking their best.

Draperies

To keep your draperies looking their best, vacuum them gently from time to time using an upholstery brush attachment. Avoid using water, as it can damage the fabric. If a deeper clean is needed, we recommend having them professionally cleaned—and always check the label for care instructions specific to your fabric.
